The Grafisch Lyceum Utrecht is leading trade school for creative doers in media, design and communications. Dedicated teachers pass on their professional expertise to the young talents who will shape the media of tomorrow from their own perspectives.
The challenge
The Grafisch Lyceum Utrecht has a good name and a long history. The media world is dynamic and in constant change. This called for a renewed connection with the new generation of creatives. That was why they were looking for a clear and striking brand identity, a statement for the media profession.
Our role
The students and teachers of the Grafisch Lyceum Utrecht were closely involved with the new positioning and brand identity. Teachers were interviewed and students formed sounding-board groups. One of many things this revealed was how much the latter group appreciated being looked upon as media makers and not just as students. The trade school hopes to appeal to a new generation of creatives with its sharpened profile. Students can easily include elements of this brand identity into their own creations and practical assignments.

Open framework
The Grafisch Lyceum Utrecht is somewhere where there’s plenty of space for expression and development. It’s a playing field ready and waiting for a new generation of creative talent. Therefore, the new logo is a clear framework ready for new creative media makers. The logo breaks down into various shapes that stand for breaking down barriers, stimulating new ideas and working together.

“Today worked with us and our students at every step of the way. You can see that in the end result: an identity that is truly our own.”
